Weebly

Weebly is a web page creator from Square. You can create a basic website for free with their site. It also has free SSL security on the lowest level site. (SSL is a security protocol that authenticates the site identity. Most browsers require this.)

Weebly allows users to create a place to sell their merchandise with cataloging and selling templates. Since it’s from Square, one would expect that users are selling on these sites. But you can also design the site for informational use.

If you have a Square account, Weebly will connect the two, and you can use the Square software to collect revenue from your sales. Depending on your membership level, you may have access to their shipping feature. Great, if you have a serious selling business and need to move merchandise. There’s even a feature to track inventory.

Through their main site, you can also connect to other features, including a blog, photo studio (Apple only), a marketing platform, and other add-on apps to help your site work for you.

There are paid options. For $72 a year (or $9 monthly), as a Personal user, you can create a customized domain (i.e. remove Weebly’s name on your site). For $144 a year ($16 a month), Professional users receive the customized domain, removal of Square ads, protected passwords, and more. The last level, Performance, at $312 a year ($29 monthly), has a huge list of options for you, including PayPal payments and item reviews. Check out their payment page to see all the features.

Next week, we’ll dive down the rabbit hole and create a new site on Weebly—the free version.
